7 Web Behaviors Suite
for Flash MX 2004, Flash 8 , FLash CS3

The 7 Web Behaviors is a popular suite of Flash Behaviors designed to help you create Flash /  Web Browser interaction the easy way -without even opening ActionScript panel.

No FSCommand or HTML coding required!

The 7 Web Behaviors
suite includes:

  • Close Browser Window
  • Display Browser Message Box
  • Display Message in Browser Status Bar
  • Go Back or Forward in the Browser History
(single click - Internet Explorer compatible)
  • Open Browser Window
  • Print Browser Window
  • Send Email with optional fields
(Subject, Cc, Bcc, Message text prefilled)
  • Two form control behaviors: Submit and Reset HTML form
  • Crossbrowser Add to Favorites behavior
  • Set Browser Cookie behavior

Access these Behaviors from the Behaviors panel -> Web menu (where you would usually see the lonesome "Go to Web Page" behavior).

Compatible with Flash CS3, Flash 8 and Flash MX 2004!

Any of the behaviors can be assigned to either timeline frame or an instance of a button symbol.

Use these buttons to test each Behavior:

Below you can find details on each Behavior:

Reset and Submit HTML form

Use these behaviors to submit or reset forms from within Flash movie. For example instead of using boring HTML buttons for this purpose you can create some great looking ones in Flash.

To assign either of the Behaviors:
1. Selecting Web->Submit HTML form or Reset HTML form form from the Behaviors panel.
2. Enter the name attribute of your HTML form.
For example if your HTML code is <form name="myform"> enter "myform" (without quotations)
3. Click OK.

Use the example below to test this Flash extension (clicking the corresponding buttonat the top will submit or reset the form):

Test Text Field:
Test Dropdown:
Test Checkbox:
Test Radio button:

Add to Favorites

This cross-browser behavior displays browser's Add to Favorites or Bookmark dialog box (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox) or (for browsers that do not support this feature) a message box with the bookmark shortcut (Ctrl+T for Opera and Ctrl+D for Netscape 4.7)

Close Browser Window

This behavior will simply close the browser window as if you are using a regular close button.
Assign the behavior by selecting Web->Close Browser Window from the Behaviors panel.

Display Browser Message Box

Why use heavy Flash Message box components if any browser has got one already built-in?!
When called this behavior will display the browser message box (the alert box) with the desired message.
To assign the behavior:
1. Select Web->Display Browser Message Box from the Behaviors panel.
2. Enter the desired message in the message field.
3. Click OK.

You can use the message field to enter a static message (such as "Hi, you've clicked the button") or a variable name, for example to display the data returned from the server or a form validation warning.
In the first case you have to make sure that the message is enclosed in double quotes (" ") .

Display Message in Browser Status Bar

When called this behavior will display a message in the browser status bar.
To assign the behavior:
1. Select Web->Display Message in Browser Status Bar from the Behaviors panel.
2. Enter the desired message in the message field.
3. Click OK.

You can use the message field to enter a static message (such as "Hi, you've clicked the button") or a variable name.
In the first case you have to make sure that the message is enclosed in double quotes (" ") .
Note: You can display the message when a user rolls over a button (select "On Roll Over" from the Event dropdown in the Behavior panel) and hide it by assigning the same behavior again with the "On Roll Out" event and entering an empty string ("") in the message field.

Go Back or Forward

With this behavior you can simulate the browser's "Back" and "Forward" buttons used to navigate browsing history.
To assign the behavior:
1. Select Web->Go Back or Forward from the Behaviors panel.
2. Select either "Back" or "Forward" from the Direction dropdown menu.
3. Click OK.

This behavior takes care of the Internet Explorer glitch which requires user to click the button twice for the action to trigger.

Print Browser Window

This behavior will print the entire browser window, not just the Flash movie. The best use for it would probably be printing content in a pop-up window where the browser "print" button is not available.
Another good example would be putting a button with the behavior assigned in a separate Flash file and re-using it throughout your web site project.
To use the behavior select a frame or button on the stage, then assign the behavior by selecting Web->Print Browser Window from the Behaviors panel.

Open Browser Window

This behavior will open a new browser window - a pop-up.

To assign the behavior:
1. Selecting Web->Open Browser Window from the Behaviors panel.
2. Enter the absolute or relative path to the "pop-up-to-be" page  in the Window URL field.
3. Enter the Window Name. Use the same name for multiple pages if you want all of them to appear in the same window.
4. Enter other size and position parameters (Width and Height of the pop-up window, the Top and Left position).
5. Select other parameter to specify if you want the window to have the status bar, menu bar, tool bar, whether or not you want it to be resizable and have scroll bars. You can also have the window open full screen in Internet Explorer.
6. Click OK.

New in version 2.0.4:
You can now center the pop-up window to the screen. When you select "Centered" the "Left" and "Top" parameters will be disregarded.

New in version 2.0.4:
If the pop-up height and/or width is bigger than or equal to the height / width of the screen it will be resized to the screen and positioned in the top-left corner regardless of your initial settings. This way you can be sure the pop-up is never bigger than the screen resolution.
Trick! You can also take advantage of this feature to make the window resize to fill the screen. Simply enter unrealistically high values for "Width" and/or "Height" and the extension will do it for you .

Set Cookie

Use this extension to set a Browser Cookie. The value of the cookie can be set to a string or Flash variable value with an optional expiry date. You can test this behavior using the example below.

Set cookie from Flash

To apply the behavior:
1. Select a frame or a button:
1. Select Web->Set Cookie from the Behaviors panel.
2. Fill out the Cookie Name and Cookie Vlaue fields and optionally the Expiry Date.
3. Click OK.

Send Email

Perfect way to hide your email address from spammers! -as the code is not in the HTML source it can't be picked up by spambots.

This behavior can launch a New Message window of the default email client with (optionally) prefilled fields: Subject, Cc, Bcc, Message text.
To assign the behavior:
1. Select Web->Send Email from the Behaviors panel.
2. Fill out the Send To field and optionally other fields.
3. Click OK.

Browser Compatibility:

  • Internet Explorer 5.0 and higher
  • Opera 7 and higher
  • Netscape 7and higher
